Thailand - Are they using chip and pin?
Hi all, I am travelling to Thailand this weekend and my pin reminder for my credit card has yet to arrive. Do vendors in Thailand still accept signatures when using a credit card or are they all using chip & pin as in the UK? Many thanks
A lot of smaller shops still use the old system where they put you card into hand machine and give you carbon copy - the big shopping malls are more high tec.
As for using ATM'S you get charged 150 Baht every time you use them so get out max 20000 baht.
I forgot last time to tell bank I was going to Thailand and after first Transaction they put a stop on my account. Being that I am from UK it was a 6 hr time difference ( now +7 Hrs )and it took me a long time to sort it out.
When I come to Thailand I bring cash exchange that for Thai Baht then leave in Hotel safe or Hotel deposit Box and only take out what I need for the day.
Word of advice there is a lot of credit card fraud in Thailand, mainly by Tourists. Thai's view this a very serous offence and you could get up to 15 years in Prison so please be careful with all you cards,travel documents and passport - always leave them in safe.
